When it comes to measuring performance it’s important to know that heating and cooling specs are different. In either case, the higher the number the better because higher efficiencies equate to savings on your utility bill.

Cooling is measured by SEER (Seasonal energy Efficiency Ratio) and EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio).
Heating is measure by HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) and COP (Coefficient of Performance).
